Aaron, who has been with HVO for nearly 20 years, now lives in his own apartment. He originally joined HVO thinking it would be temporary, but the program opportunities encouraged him to stay. At HVO, Aaron has gained experience in various departments including inserts, 2-bridge, and labelling. He has developed valuable job and life skills, such as using credit and debit cards, handling transactions, navigating the facility, and better understanding the community. Through classes and new responsibilities Aaron has become more independent and continues to grow by learning more complex tasks.

Gary has been employed at HVO for 18 years and is actively engaged in developing various skills to support his independence and employability. He is open to any job or task he assigned. Gary is currently working on mindful eating habits and learning the necessary skills for his everyday life. Recently, he transitioned from living with his parents to a group home, where he is adjusting to a more independent lifestyle, learning to cook, and participating in classes to become more independent.

Randy has been a part of HVO for 30 years and loves the socialization it brings. He enjoys working outside, doing his job, and talking to everyone. Through HVO he has learned to manage money, improve time management, and become more independent. His favorite task is taking out the trash because it allows him to see and speak to everyone. After Hurricane Fred flooded Randy’s apartment, HVO found him a home and helped financially support him. HVO has played a big role in helping Randy succeed in the community.

Jake has been involved with HVO for almost two years. He enjoys playing for his parents’ band and is employed at Crepe and Custard. At Crepe and Custard Jake likes to clean and talk to his coworkers. Job shadows on Mondays and Fridays help develop job skills and ensure he understands the tasks assigned to him. He is social, enjoying outings and conversations with his friends. He likes playing games in The Hub, interacting with therapy dogs, and playing the drums.
